Drippytown began in the last days of the 20th Century, in the Spring of 1999 to be precise. Robert Dayton and Julian Lawrence devised a plan to link the local arts community of Vancouver a.k.a. Drippytown with its suburbs a.k.a the world at large. Thus was born: the Drippy Gazette. Published monthly from September 1999 to September 2000, the two-color newspaper records a crucial period in world history. As the Millennium dawned, there were fears of a global computer meltdown caused by the Y2K virus. One of the Drippy Gazette’s purposes was to document with a physical archive the community of artists, writers, musicians, etc with whom we lived at that time. Articles were written, reviews were noted, interviews were given and comics were drawn. Every issue of the Drippy Gazette was lovingly assembled, cut and pasted by hand on large flats and supported by members of the Vancouver arts and business community.
